129 Rennies Mill Road- For Sale

You may have been waiting for this location with a sweeping view along the Rennies River valley and Signal Hill.

Whether you enjoy the hiking along the Rennies River Trail to Long Pond or Quidi Vidi, a walk to Churchill Square or Downtown to shop, or walk to Memorial University, one could argue that this is the best location in the City

This home has over 1500 sq ft on the main floor with three bedrooms, a den, galley kitchen with eating area and open concept dining room and living room with a wood fireplace in the living room. Main portions of the house have original hardwood floors. You will be captivated by the view from inside looking along the Historic river valley to Signal Hill and if you may be considering the purchase of a house in a location that lends itself to a renovation, then look no further. Come and see and imagine a second storey addition where the sweeping view will be enhanced. Or consider an extension at the rear with a custom new kitchen.

Alternatively, this house can accommodate your needs as is as it has very good bones and comes with a new 200 amp electrical service.

The basement contained a one-bedroom apartment which is now vacant and in the category of an in-law suite as opposed to an apartment. It is very bright with large windows.

The large garden is awaiting your enjoyment and as can be seen in the photos at the bottom. It has been nurtured by the current owners for decades.

No problem parking three cars and there is a basement garage.

Whether it is K-12, first rate schools are all in very close proximity.

Some viewers of this web site may not know that Rennies Mill Rd. was name after Rennies Mill which used to be located on Rennies River just a stone’s throw from 129 Rennies Mill Rd. The attached image was painted by Henry Bradshaw c.1900

It was said of Mr. Bradshaw that: “Business found him a faithful servant but with brush and palette, by rippling brook or placid lake, or amid sylvan solitudes, he found his inspiration and joy”.

David G. Rennie operated the mill in the second half of the 1800’s and it was described as a water and corn mill working three stones and having no oat shelling and no kiln. There were two ovens in the bakery for sea biscuits and three stills in the distillery.

The occupancy of that site actually goes back to the second quarter of the 1800’s when a Scotsman James Murray, who was a miller and baker started his business in the same location on the banks of the River. He also made sea biscuits, know today as hard tack, still made by Purity Factories.

Subsequent to use by Murray and Rennie, the Rotary Club set up a location for a “first rate” swimming pool, 210 feet in length, at the dam location in 1928 and it remained in operation until the 1950’s.

I digress as 129 Rennies Mill Road now awaits your viewing pleasure.
