Chris O’Dea of O’Dea’s Auction Room holds the CPPA designation . This reflects the fact that he has completed a comprehensive program in Calgary, offered by the Canadian Personal Property Appraisal (CPPA) Group.

In addition to the CPPA designation, Chris O’Dea is a woodworker / furniture maker, and has undertaken faithful restoration of many period pieces of furniture and he is a collector of a variety of 18th and 19th century items. As a result has an inherent understanding that will readily lend itself, particularly when it comes to estate appraisals. This is backed up by a comprehensive collection of reference material.

In the case of Art Appraisal, Chris is a collector of early Newfoundland art, especially 19th century prints. This combined with his general interest in the area, and his previous involvement as a member of the Board of the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be of benefit when undertaking Art Appraisal.

From a commercial perspective, Chris has had considerable experience in the business world, including three years as President NewTech Instruments, a Newfoundland based high tech contract manufacturing firm. In addition he has served many years with Nortel, NewTel and Aliant, and for a time served on the Board of the Alliance of Manufacturers and Exporters of Newfoundland and Labrador. This experience, and the contacts developed in business over the years will result in professional appraisal work in all aspects of commercial enterprise.

As a general rule, and for estates, valued in excess of $5000, the appraisal fee is refundable if the items that are appraised, are consigned or sold through O’Dea’s Auction Room, within three months of the date of the appraisal.
