On Sat. Aug 25, 2001, an estate auction was held at the historic Star of the Sea Hall on Henry St. , the same site from where Jack O'Driscoll (who was married to Maddy O'Dea, aunt to Chris O'Dea) held his auction sales in the 1930's and 1940's. Most items were from the estate of Hon. William Browne and from Dr. Norah Browne, however, there were also consignments from other sources.
This was a very important auction for Chris O'Dea, as it was his first commercial sale, although there were a number of charity auctions conducted by the auctioneer in advance of this sale.
The auction drew great interest from the community, and the hall was full for the auction. Overall, it was a great success, meeting the expectations of the consignors and the buying public. Chris O'Dea would like to thank Dr. Norah Browne for her confidence and support and also extend thanks to all of the other consignors.
