Introducing 3 Lakeview Avenue

The home at 3 Lakeview Avenue was built for J.R. Chalker in 1901. The architecture of the house is in keeping with the period with its hooded three side bay window, mansard roof and dormer window. The original owner was a businessman and a politician, who was born in Brigus in 1871. In his early days, J.R Chalker was in the plastering trade, and he subsequently established a fish and oil product business in St. John’s. In 1912, he started the Newfoundland lime manufacturing company, and he was also the founder of a local meat company called Chalker and Co. Ltd. From a political perspective, J.R. Chalker made a contribution as Deputy Mayor of St. John’s.

The Chalker family lore speaks of a Newfoundland $20 gold hidden in the floor of one of the bedrooms.

3 Lakeview is a family home that has seen a number of modifications since its construction. The heritage integrity of the original portion of the house is in tact with plaster walls and moldings and original fireplaces, one with a marble mantle and the other with an elaborate wooden over mantle with beveled mirror.

The original living room, dining room and three second floor bedrooms remain. In addition there is a kitchen extension that leads to a spacious first floor family room.

There are also spacious finished basement rooms, which mean that this house can readily accommodate a large family.

With a mature garden, measuring approx. 100 by 100 Ft., and large wrap around deck overlooking Quidi Vidi Lake, you can start to plan for the Regatta party on the first Wednesday in August.

The price of 3 Lakeview is TBD
