29-33 Ballett’s Lane - For Sale

Port Rexton

You will be hard pressed to find a better parcel of bold coastal property, with spectacular views usually seen on a post card or in tourism ads. The panorama includes Fox Island, on the opposite side of Robin Hood Bay.

The area is full of history as Robin Hood Bay was named after marauding pirates who frequented the region in the 1600’s and 1700’s. Fox Island has fortifications on “The Porch” where trenches were constructed for defence during Queen Anne’s War in 1701 between the English and Spanish. The community of Port Rexton, formerly called Ship Cove was a gathering place for English seamen before the time when John Guy established the colony in Cupids in 1610.

In the 19th century, this property was owned and occupied by a livyer with roots in Devon in the South of England. His name was Pete Ploughman. He grew vegetables for his family on the ocean front meadow and fished from “Pete Plough’s stage” adjacent to the sea stacks that border the secluded pocket beach.

The 6.75 acres has 925 ft of ocean frontage. The rolling meadow and boreal forest land has a natural water course running to the ocean and invites the landscape architect to create a special water feature to complement other development on the property, such as the reconstruction of the stairway access to “Pete Plough’s Stage”. There are a number of potential sites for construction of a home that would offer outstanding vistas. In fact, a number of homes could be build, allowing a sense of community, while preserving privacy and vista.

The renowned Skerwink Trail ( www.theskerwinktrail.com ) is just a stone throw from the property. This trail was designated by Travel and Leisure magazine as one of the top 35 trails in North America and Europe

The site is also located just a pleasant and short walk from Fisher’s Loft ( www.fishersloft.com ), where you can enjoy dining at it’s best where others can also share in the view of Fox Island.

Bird watchers will enjoy kittiwakes, gannets, great blackback gulls, puffins, many nesting pairs of bald eagles and a variety of songbirds. And from time to time viewers will enjoy sightings whales breaching on the ocean surface including regular visits by Minke and Humpback whales with occasional glimpses of Orcas and Fin Whales. 15,000 year old Icebergs are also regular visitors in season and keep an eye out for the majestic moose who are occupants of the area.

Those who like to fish can enjoy the cod in season and can also fish for trout and salmon. Two licensed salmon rivers are in close proximity by car.

Nature also brings an abundance of berries with partridgeberries and blueberries on your doorstep. Watch out for the Maiden Hair berry ( growing among the moss ),also called Capillaire and Magna Tea, while hiking the Skerwink as the burst of wintergreen taste is a real delicacy. And if one develops a good relationship with the locals, you may even find out where the bakeapples can be found. If not, they may just say “up around the road”.

For boaters, sailers, kayakers, scuba divers and those otherwise enjoying the water, this area presents great opportunity. Simply tie up your Rodney at Peter Plough’s stage, dive on early wrecks in Trinity Harbour, kayak to Fox Island to hike the trail to the top, or just enjoy a cook up on the beach, the range of enjoyable activities are endless

The historic community of Trinity is just a few miles away and is a great location to enjoy heritage homes, many historic sites open to the public, access to whale watching tours, fine dining, fair trade gourmet coffee at Trinity Mercantile. outstanding theatre at Rising Tide Theatre, and much more.

In fact, the whole area in the Trinity Bight with bookends from English Harbour to New Bonaventure, is a delightful region for exploration, as is the whole Bonavista Peninsula.

So with 29-33 Ballett’s Lane as your base in the Trinity Bight, many delights await your pleasure.
