Aquilla Miller House in Trouty

In 1918, Abe King returned from “The Boston States” to build a house in Trouty. He planned to spend the remaining years in the new house with his lady friend. However, the couple separated before the house was completed and it remained in an unfinished state for a number of years, until it was bought by local school master, Mr. Aquilla Miller.

Now referred to as the “Aquilla Miller” house, the current owners have decided that the call of the “RV” means that they plan to spend a few years enjoying traveling around North America.

The owners have just completed the exterior restoration of the house and the photos, on this web site, illustrate their work and highlight the architectural detail of this three bedroom home. The two story bay window, with its architectural origins in “The Boston States”, and the four peak gable roof,   add a very refined appeal to this vernacular outport home. The interior of the home remains in its original condition with its soundly built spindle staircase intact.

The picturesque terraced garden is a manageable size which will enable the buyer to spend time enjoying the many attractions in this part if Newfoundland referred to as The Trinity Bight. For a start, one can “wet a fly” in the licensed salmon river which is about 40 feet from the front door. The access to the food fishery is at the estuary, where the river meets the sea and that is a few hundred yards from the house. Hikers will enjoy the hiking in Trouty Harbour and the rolling hills and valleys in the Bight. Pastries for your hike can be purchased at The Trinity Bake Shop which is located in Trouty, and the local fish plant can supply the fresh crab. Theatre lovers can take the 10 minute drive to Trinity and enjoy the amazing summer productions by the Rising Tide Theatre. Don’t forget winter enjoyment. The hundredth anniversary of the “Time” will be held at the Lodge in New Bonaventure, a short drive away,  on New Year’s Day. And finally, the shed in the back garden can be skidoo headquarters for you winter excursions to Trouty Pond, Newcastle Pond and beyond.

This can be yours for $59,500. For a viewing and for additional information, please call Chris O’Dea at 685-6559
