This classically designed house, built in 1931, with centre hall plan, and very spacious rooms, is awaiting your personal touch regarding the interior appointments. The main floor has a cozy den with propane fireplace and there is a tiled art deco style wood burning fireplace in the expansive living room. Adjacent to the family room is a multi purpose room which can be used for a variety of purposes. The dining room overlooking the garden can accommodate a large group of guests for dinner. The second floor has four bedrooms with ensuite and walk in closet in the master, which is also equipped with a propane stove fireplace insert. New owners will enjoy the Thomas Glass greenhouse off the master. The basement has a rec room with fireplace and the basement level is walk out to the garden. History buffs may be interested to know that this house was owned and occupied by Hon. J. S. Currie. He was born in Carbonear in 1877 and died in 1956. The current owner bought the house from the Currie Estate in 1957. The land, on which the house was built, was originally part of the Winter Estate. Hon J. S. Currie was a local politician and journalist. He started work at the Daily News in 1894 when the publication was first launched. In 1913, he was elected to the House of Assembly as People’s Party Member for Burin. In 1919, he was appointed Minister without portfolio in the Cashin government and was defeated in the general election in November of that year. In 1932, he was appointed as a member of the Legislative Council. At the time of his death in 1956, he was the Publisher of the Daily News.

Gardeners will be delighted with this property. The vegetable plot is awaiting the green thumb and it already has a new crop of fresh rhubarb, and raspberry bushes are enjoying the southern exposure. In addition, there are black and red currant bushes bordering the rear fence. The garden is abundant with mature plantings including a variety of hedging, Copper Beech, Japanese Cherry, Rhododendrons, Hawthorne, and there are lots of perennials to enjoy.
